Topic: "The Power of Empathy in Negotiations"
Speakers: Scott Loring, Cooperative Coaching and Mediation
Place: 55 William Street, Wellesley, MA (Directions)
The Sotomayor nomination to the Supreme Court has brought empathy to the forefront of legal discussions. News accounts and columnists often confuse empathy with sympathy or favoritism. Scott Loring will explain the difference between the two and share with us how empathy can be used to resolve conflicts in negotiations and settlement discussions. Learning how to give genuine empathy that connects with others can be done in a way that allows people to feel understood in just one or two sentences if we master the components of empathy and how to deliver them. In this discussion, you will learn: (a) 14 behaviors that get in the way of genuine connection and empathy; (b) a simple three-step formula to give empathy effectively and quickly; and (c) how to respond when others are feeling fear, anxiety, anger, worry or concern.
Scott Loring, founder of Cooperative Coaching and Mediation has been an Executive Coach and Mediator since 2000. Scott works with closely-held businesses to improve their focus, collaboration, and profitability.
